Side Ponytails

I called it first. Or, anyway before "Us Weekly", September 26, page 76. See Carrie Underwood, Michelle Trachtenberg and Byrne all sporting sexy, side locks.  I agree with Julianne Hough. A side ponytail can be the perfect compromise between wearing your hair up or just leaving it down. A side pony worn just a liitle messy is even sexier....

Blow Out Bootcamp - Faces Beautiful Tuesday, September 27 5 pm

Just reading the special issue Allure, October 2011, page 112, "The Insiders Guide to How to Get a Good Blowout." Alli Webb gives some great starter advice: start with clean hair, know your hair type, and use the right products.

Tomorrow night we'll be teaching clients exactly that at our salon in Westport. Call and be sure you have an appointment 203-226-1818. Our stylists will be working with each client individually to show, help and guide to achieving the look you desire. Each client should bring their own blow dryer, flat iron and hair products. Sometimes achieving your desired look is as easy as changing up a tool or a product.

Fall’s Hottest New Color Trend

Hey girl, fall is here. We’ve still got a while until the leaves fall (wait, that happens here in Atlanta, right?) but for now it’s getting to be the time where we transition our flirtiest floral prints and denim shorts to our beloved coziest sweaters and jeans.

It seems that just about everyone has settled into the new school year, but the start of a new decade calls for a new color trend to rock this season. It seems like the runway has taken a cue from the foliage that comes about every autumn in my home based in New England; since warm, burnt hues are what’s it this fall. From fire-engine red, marigold, sienna, rusty beige, to anything orange – is hot, hot, hot. Stop, I already know what you are thinking. Didn’t our favorite brilliant, blonde icon Elle Woods talk Cameron Diaz out of buying that heinous sweater at Fred Segal applying the logic that, “whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!” ?  Yes, but that was also 10 years ago (pause for shock).

Hermés has been owning their signature orange trend ever since the 1950’s, and it’s about time the rest of us have caught the color craze. So next Saturday when you decide to head over to Buckhead to hit up the Lenox Mall and Phipps with your girls, make sure to invest in something orange… sorry Elle!

Fashion Week Recognition!!! Take A Look

Fashion Week Beauty TipsFor Everyday Women

New York Fashion Week featured some of the most creative minds in
fashion and beauty. Even if you weren't in the Big Apple for the runway shows, catch a glimpse of some of the spring season's hottest trends. Makeup expert and President and CEO of FACES Beautiful, Gail Sagel, helps the everyday woman make the upcoming season's trends work for her.

default-makeupRED LIPSTICK
Whether it's a strong, orange-tinted color or a deep, cranberry hue, red lipstick made a big splash at New York Fashion Week. It's clear that this classic look hasn't gone out of style. Gail notes: "It's important to choose the right shade of red for you, and there is one for everyone! Take your time testing out your favorite shades and settle on one go-to product for the most flattering results."

Quick Tips:
  • For cool skin tones, opt for a bluish red. Warm skin tones should stick to orange or yellow-based reds. Don't be afraid to blend since sometimes, the best color is the result of a perfect mix.
  • To keep the color in place, apply lip liner around the outer rim of lips.
  • Don't overdo the rest of your makeup. Bold lips call for all of the attention.

default-makeupBOLD BROWS
Strong, bold brows are where it's at. "There are few things that can transform a face as much as the perfect eyebrow. With this particular look, you'll need to be careful, as it can be too dramatic for everyday wear if it's not done correctly," says Gail.

Quick Tips:
  • To achieve this look, go a few shades darker than your original eyebrow color. For example, if you're blonde, don't go for a black brow. Stick with the same color family.
  • Instead of using an eyeliner pencil, use a shadow that is almost matches the shade of your eyebrow color. Create a line at the base of the eyebrow and blend upward, using an eyebrow brush.
  • Keep other makeup minimal and make brows the star of the show.

default-makeupBRIGHT EYES
Although it was all over the runways, it can look like a paint-by-number project gone awry if you don't take the right approach. But who can resist this vibrant, fun look? Gail adds: "Choose colors that work with your skin tone. Reserve this look for night, and have fun with it!"

Quick Tips:
  • Applying dramatic colors is just like applying any other shade, but be mindful of layering and blending. Draw attention to the eye, but don't drown out the rest of your features.
  • Choose matte shadow as opposed to metallic. With an already intense look, shimmer isn't necessary.
  • Use black eyeliner and mascara to contrast the brightness of the hue. Keep other makeup to a minimum.

Happy 40th Birthday Great Lash Mascara!!

Who knew?? I was flipping through August Beauty Inc, and page 11 is a full page picture of Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. You know, the distinctive pink and lime green packaging. It was my mascara in my teens. It was born in 1971. It was the mascara I hid when I went off to summer camp. It was the mascara all the girls shared and passed around on sleepovers, and we applied while we pranced around with pink foam rollers in our hair. The seventies wouldn’t have been the same without Barbie Dolls, Bell bottom jeans and Great Lash Mascara. And, as always it still has that same great look and the same great formula. SO, HAPPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

Kim Kardashian Wedding Predictions

These Two Blogs were nice enough to cover my story. Here is what they reported.

Hollywood's Royal Wedding - Makeup Artist Gail Sagel Predicts Kim Kardashian's Wedding Day Look

From the $20,000 10-tier wedding cake that resembles Prince William and Duchess Kate's to the highly anticipated first photo of the wedding dress by go-to bridal couturier Vera Wang, all wedding day details for the soon-to-be Mrs. Kris Humphries (aka Kim Kardashian) have been sought after. As the countdown winds down -only 5 days before her nuptials- many are speculating what makeup style the reality TV star queen will choose for her big day. With a celebrity makeup artist already leading Kim’s bridal glam squad, professional makeup artist and creator of FACES Beautiful Mineral Makeup Line, Gail Sagel weighs in on the bride-to-be’s bridal look.

“The most important tip I always tell my clients is to choose a makeup artist for your wedding that you’ve worked with before so that you know you will trust and like their work,” says Gail. “Kim's makeup has always leaned toward glamorous and super-feminine. Her makeup is based on enhancing her eyes and bone structure.”
Ultra Glam & Sexy: From the Red Carpet to the Wedding Aisle

“Kim is known for her signature smoldering eyes, dramatic eyelashes and nude lips – her go-to look for the red carpet,” says Gail. “She may stick with this winning look as she head’s down the aisle this weekend.” According to Gail, smokey eyes is the must-have staple to achieve Kim’s ultra sexy look. “Stay away from blue hues - which can make you look like you have under eye circles. Instead, go for black, gray, brown or if you want color, dark green shadows and liners are recommended. Oh, and remember, lots and lots of mascara.”

True Romance

Kim has called her soon-to-be husband her Prince Charming. Gail predicts Kim may trade in the drama when it comes to her makeup and opt for a more softer, romantic look. “Everything about the romantic look is dewy and luminous,” says Gail. “Peach blush, pinks lips and radiant skin are essential to pull off this look. This Armenian beauty’s tan is natural, but if you're not blessed with this glamorous shade, you can opt for self tanners or bronzers with a hint of shimmer.”

Fresh-Faced: Less is More

Usually when you think of Kim’s makeup, you think drama and bombshell come to mind. But for her wedding day, it might not be a big surprise if the blushing bride selects a less is more color palette. “Kim’s natural features are striking – with or without makeup. If the rumors are true about her wedding dress being ‘over-the-top’, then you may want to pare down your makeup . You don’t want your makeup to be a distraction a your dress. To achieve this make-under, Gail says it all starts with your foundation. “Flawless skin equals fresh-faced makeup.”
