Sue Devitt 70% Triple Seaweed Gel Foundation

What a great light-weight, “give me lots of coverage”, foundation. Sue Devitt’s 70% Triple Seaweed Foundation probably needs a bit of explanation, because it is different. Usually foundations that are matte or oil-free say so. This one doesn’t so you wouldn’t know, unless I tell you, but it is matte in finish and better than oil free is seaweed filled. I especially like this foundation for skin that is a bit oilier. The 70% seaweed acts as a mattifier and so it leaves your skin with lots of coverage, but not too much slip. It’s especially good for you girls who like a matte finish. So, with this foundation, you get all of the antioxidants of the seaweed extracts, a matte finish and no dryness or additional lines from a totally oil-free foundation.

I love the look of filled in brows and most pencils just don’t look nearly as good as a powder, but then most powders are just too hard to use. But, not this one. Vincent Longo gives us girls the bi-brow powder and pomade mix. I like to put a little of the wax on my brush and place it in the area where my brows need more hair. Then I take a bit of the powder and stroke it over the waxed are. The wax holds onto the powder, so you get a really natural look.

            It’s specific and yet it’s an entire philosophy of life. Old Reliable Haircut. The acronym originated with Sara Barr, a stylist at FACES Beautiful in Westport, which, interestingly enough, just changed its name from Beautiful Faces, but that’s another story. 

            Sara has hundreds of clients, all ages, and all occupations. She says that she’s noticed that around 50ish, women seem wedded to the hairstyle, the clothes-style, and the make-up style they’ve had for years. It’s safe. It’s OK. But it’s boring. There’s no thrill anymore to looking in the mirror, there’s no tingling excitement to walking out of the salon.

Sara thinks that the current craze about age is awful. It’s made every line on a woman’s, or even a man’s, face a Grand Canyon of sunken hopes. “The avalanche of products that say they’ll help erase wrinkles eventually is kind of fanatic and confusing, don’t you think?” she says. (And, she works in an environment which is known for authentic skincare.)

If women would think of abandoning the ORH for something different, they wouldn’t obsess about wrinkles that much, she says. “It’s complicated. It’s emotional. It’s guilt. Leaving a hair stylist who’s been your confidante for ten or fifteen years is like a divorce. But that’s often the only way. Here’s what often happens: A woman who’s been getting an ORH for a long time sees a friend whose hair looks fantastic. That’s it.  The seed has been planted.  Maybe she can convince her tried-and-true stylist to experiment, but maybe not.” Big conflict.  Big choice.  Big, and better, change.

Often, something dramatic in a woman’s life has to happen to create the courage to try something really new. Lately, losing a job is a very effective motivator.

Great band, 3D-Ritmo de Vida plays hot salsa, jazz and soul. It’s a MIX event, hosted by Gene Seidman, a very cool Westporter. Gene has a new mission – and it’s all about us having fun! Got to love that.

A MIX night is an evening out that you do not want to miss.  You’re cool, you’re beautiful, so… you’ve got to be seen. MIX is about dancing, laughing, meeting people and just getting out on the dance floor.  Gene Seidman loves to dance, says his sister Kate taught him. He admits to perfecting his skills at “Studio 54”. I too, love dancing; honed my dancing at “The Pier” in Washington. Anyone, remember that place? Well, if you went to Maryland, GW or American in the late 70’s, early 80’s - then you no doubt saw me. So I feel I’m qualified to say that Gene Seidman knows how to throw a great dancing party. And, he’s a great dancer!
This isn’t his first MIX, but this one being at “The Barn”, I think it’s going to be the best. The band 3D is awesome. Both the drummer and the guitarist have performed with artists we all know and love – Kid Creole, Jennifer Lopez, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, and the Coconuts, just to name a few.
