Look Like a Cover Model

Want to look like you stepped out of the cover of Harper’s Bazaar? You certainly can this holiday season! The December/January issue this year features Lily Donaldson with a shimmery brown eye and a bold red lip. For the eyes, play with the trends this season and include gold liner and a touch shimmer in the center of your lip. For the most perfect red lips make sure that they are moisturized and exfoliated, then apply a red pencil as a base and fill in with your favorite shade of red. The holidays are a great time to experiment with fire engine red. This combo of bold lips and neutral eyes will have you looking glam in no time! I recommend Faces Beautiful’s lipstick ($17) in the Red Carpet or Blaze and pair that with the eye shadow quad in the color Nouveau ($32).  If you need help moisturizing lips, try Faces Beautiful Intensive Eye and Lip Treatment.

Holiday Tips

Holidays got the best of you? “Glamour” Magazine shares 7 tips for looking great in a hurry after a long night out.
Step 1: Be prepared. Try your best to stay hydrated throughout the night as alcohol dries everything out. As an extra precaution you can try taking a fish oil supplement or B12 vitamin when you’re getting ready to go out. This will help keep you to look refreshed the next day.
Step 2: Prevent puffiness by sleeping as upright as possible. Adding another pillow will promote lymphatic drainage and keep you looking alter.
Step 3. Caffeinate. Use products with caffeine in them or place warm green-tea bags over eyes for two minutes to stimulate the skin. This will help banish blotchiness, eye circles, and dullness.
Step 4: Counteract any discolorations with your makeup. Green covers red and yellow neutralizes blue.
Step 5: Consider skipping foundation. Liquids and powders will appear caked- on if your skin is too dry. Instead opt for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer the morning after a big night out.
Step 6: Brighten your eyes using a beige liner along your water eye. This will make your eyes appear larger and more awake.
Step 7: Dab a light reflecting highlight on the top of your cheekbones, along the bridge of your nose, and in two dots on the middle of your forehead. This will brighten up your whole look!

Hottest Winter Nails

Attention Beauties! The newest nail colors for the winter are officially on sale now! One of my favorite nail polish companies, Essie, has just released their winter 2012 nail polish line. This collection features classic colors that aren’t bound to any trend so it easy to wear the all of the shades you love! This collection is all about your personal style.
Essie has been a long time favorite of Kate Middleton, who wore it for her wedding to Price William. Essie’s founder, Essie Weingarten certainly had that in mind when creating this collection. She said, “It’s one part Queen Elizabeth, two parts Duchess of Cambridge. They don’t mince words and never mince color. I just love the elegant simplicity of a saturated, vibrant look. It’s so luxe, yet so easy to put together.”
The colors include a beautiful tiffany color blue, “where’s my chauffeur”, two creamy red shades, “snap happy” and “she’s pampered” a silvery gold glitter called “beyond cozy” and an indulgent bright blue called “butler please.”
Let us know which one is your favorite pick for winter!

Sweet and Low Pony

Hey Ladies! Just in time for winter parties, the latest formal hair trend comes to us from the UK edition of  “Cosmopolitan Magazine”. On page 164, Cosmo demonstrates the elegance of the “sweet and low” ponytail. Super-stylist Karry Warn advises, “A classic chignon or totally polished ponytail can look old-fashioned. Placing your up-do right at the back of the head and adding plenty of texture to your style will give you a much fresher, younger, look.” The key is to use a volumizing mouse to play up your natural texture. Curl your hair using a 2-inch barrel curling iron and then pin up the curls while cooling. After they cool shake the waves loose and tuck them into a low pony as shown here.  Don’t forget to have fun and add the bow!

40th Anniversary Issue of "W"

The 40th anniversary issue of “W” magazine is out! This special edition features Keira Knightley, Scarlet Johannson, Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska. Keira rules the 2000s in a Chanel braided tweed jacket, while Scarlett rocks the 1990s in a Dolce & Gabbana silk lace dress and silk and lace bodysuit, accessorized with a nose piercing and dark red lips. Mia powers up the 1980s in a Balenciaga wool jacquard bustier. Lastly, Rooney swings the 1970s in Prada and an Albertus Swanepoel hat.
Mia looks fantastic in her 1980’s look. It features the fun and fearless makeup of the time period including a mixture of blue and pink shadows that accentuate her beauty. Rooney also looks beautiful and sophisticated with a classic red lip in the 1970’s look.
Scarlet’s look is dark and gothic with a bold eye and lip. This look seems only to embody the “grunge” period of the early 90’s and in our opinion misses the mark."
Finally, Keira almost looks nothing like herself as she embodies the 2000s. Her look features stark blonde hair with a greenish hue that does little to compliment her. The makeup look includes a neutral eye and red lip, which is classic, but not limited to the 2000’s. It would have been nice to see her with a smokey eye and with her natural brunette hair.

In the November issue of “W” magazine, Saks Fifth Avenue has an 8-page ad for all of their trendy handbags for the season. The women modeling these bags are simply gorgeous and the epitome of style and class. Our favorite ad/makeup combination is on page 141. This beautiful Gucci bag appears rich and sophisticated, as does the model. She is wearing a burgundy nail polish, which compliments her sweater and the bag. Her makeup is elegant and features a neutral yet defined eye and sheer burgundy lip.  To recreate this look, we recommend the Faces Beautiful Lipstick in the color Bordeaux, $17.

The Healthy Skin Diet...!

Hey beauties! Frustrated with acne prone skin? Tried everything?
Have you tried changing your diet?
We might have the solution for you! “Glamour Magazine’s” Great Skin Diet has arrived! The magazine consulted doctors, nutritionists, and conducted their own study to come up with the best diet tips for your skin. The study had seven women drink more water and eat more vegetables for a full seven weeks, and six of the seven women saw noticeable to changes in their skin. “Glamour” also recommends avoiding processed carbs such as white bread, which cause a spike insulin levels that can clog pores. Experts say cutting down on dairy and red meats may also prevent acne.
So here’s the acne prevention diet:
o   Drink lots and lots of non carbonated water
o   Eat vegetables 4 times a day
o   Avoid white carbs, such as potatoes, bread etc…
o   Avoid red meats. Stick with fish, chicken and pork
o   Avoid dairy products
I bet you’ll have clear skin and probably be skinnier too!! Sounds like a win win. Let us know if switching up your diet has helped with your skin.

Smooch-Proof... All About Lip Stains

You've tried lipsticks and lip glosses, but what about lip stains? Lip stains provide great color and are very long lasting. This type of product is also good if you like to look natural rather than obviously "made-up." They'll bring enough color to your lips so that you look like you just went for a run or ate a Popsicle. Since they're so sheer, you can build up color and coverage by adding a lipstick or colored gloss on top. Lip stains are typically made from a water or gel base. This formula gives them great staying power without the sticky feeling of gloss, but beware, they can be very drying, if you use them every day. That’s why I like to save them for special occasions or times when you need your lips to stay through cocktails, laughing, and kisses!
What are your favorite lip stains? For me I like the Vincent Longo stains followed by the Lipmints lip-gloss for the refreshing burst of spearmint.

Look Like Royalty...

Channeling European royalty, the Revlon Fall 2012 Shanghai Collection has a bit of old world glamour and Emma Stone looking far too beautiful for her own good! As you know, we have been loving royal tones this fall including royal blue, plums, purples, and deep reds. While great colors to choose in your outfits, these colors can also look beautiful on your skin. These colors have long stood for royalty and glamour and you too can use them to become the princess of your dreams. Get Emma’s look with purple or berry tones on your lids. Or try a bold, timeless red lip. We recommend The Faces beautiful shadow quad in the color Cougar $32. http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/851036001051.htm

Bold Lips Are Back!

Glance over at any of your favorite magazines this fall and chances are the ladies on the covers are sporting a bold, colorful lip. The trend was seen at New York Fashion week, and women of all ages have embraced the bold lip. It is time to move on from the days of a super nude lip and switch it up with some color! We think that celebs like Taylor Swift (on the cover of the November issue of Glamour) look vibrant and striking with a colorful lip. The trick is to try to keep your lips healthy and moisturized, as the weather turns colder, then be brave and chose a daring new color! Having fun and taking chances is what it is all about.

What Models Do But Real Ladies Don't

Hey ladies! While sometimes I find myself staring at models in magazines and wondering how they can make looking good so effortless, there are some times when models do things that real people would never. On page 274 of September’s “Marie Claire” there is a gorgeous model rocking red lipstick with an outline of coral. While I love a classic red lip, this one is not a real girls red lip. While this coral liner twist makes her lips appear very sexy, it’s not long-wearing, not practical or cocktail friendly and is definitely not a trend for all of us girls at home.

Eye On the Future

Hey Everyone! Just wanted to share with you how much fun we had at The Eye on the Future event at the Westport Inn last week.
We had a blast mixing and mingling with the hottest ladies in Westport and getting them ready to model for a great cause. The evening benefitted the Crohn’s/ Colitis Foundation of Fairfield which our good friend Randi Lehrman has worked hard to promote. Girls just want to have fun and we sure did watching the great fashion show by Snappy Gator as well as giving makeovers to the gorgeous attendees!

Bold & Blue

Hey beauties! This fall and winter the hottest colors are actually very cool. Royal blue is all over the red carpet and popping up in all of our favorite shows this fall. In the September issue of “Marie Claire” there is an ad featuring Ashley Madekwe from the hit show “Revenge” sporting true blue (pg 170). Stay on top of the trend by pairing your blues with an orangey, coral lip like in the ad. We recommend FACES beautiful’s Sheer Gloss in the colors prowl or vivid.
http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/851036001998.htm

This keeps the look from being dated and will be sure to complement any skin tone. For a classic pairing, we also like royal blue with a grey and silver smokey eye.

Did they get it right?

Hey everyone, the September issue of “Marie Claire” has some great articles as well as inspiring ads. On page 100, there is an ad for the Leo Legacy collection from Anne Klein, which can be found at Macy’s. The add features five ladies wearing long colored dresses and contrasting colored tights. All of these ladies have a neutral eye and lip. But did they get it right? We vote yes! Because there is so much color in each of their outfits, the neutral look helps to keep them looking classy and polished.
To recreate this great fall look choose a gloss that accentuates your natural lip color such as the FACES beautiful Nude Blush Mineral gloss. http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/851036001037.htm

A Sultry Scent To Try!

Hey Ladies! August’s issue of “Harper’s Bazaar” featured an article called “Beautify Diaries” about products successful women of all ages swear by. On page 126, Rita Wilson, Hollywood actress, producer, and singer; age 55, details her must haves. These key beauty items include our own Gail Sagel’s signature scent, Tom Ford’s Black Orchid Eau de Parfum. This feminine yet dark scent is described as a mixture of sultry woods and rich fruit, which help to enhance skin’s natural scent. A new and yet timeless scent worth smelling for yourself!

"Ace Your Base" - Seeking the best foundation...

Hey Everyone! This month’s “Fitness Magazine” featured an article called “Ace Your Base” dedicated to choosing the perfect foundation for your skin type. Foundations can be tricky and it is important to choose something long wearing, convenient, and good for your skin.
For those looking to control shine, "Fitness Magazine" recommends Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 20. While low in cost at $12.99, this liquid makeup can be heavy and difficult to apply for beginners. For those looking for a moisturizing foundation, they suggest Shiesido Makeup Radiant Lifting Foundation SPF 17 which can be pricey at $45.00 and also take time and patience to apply. And finally for ladies with sensitive skin, mineral based products including Physicians formula Talc-Free Mineral Airbrushing Pressed Powder ($14) are suggested. While  I agree that mineral makeup is the way to go for sensitive skin, sometimes powders can be too drying and look artificial.
While they recommended products from some great cosmetic brands, wouldn’t it be easier if everyone could find the best, affordable and convenient product? FACES Beautiful's "Brush-On" Liquid Mineral Makeup is hands down the best match for any of your skincare concerns mentioned above. And, best of all it is a three in one product with an attached brush for applying perfectly each time. It is easy to apply and perfect for anyone looking for convenience and high quality in a foundation. The formula is so unique that your skin will look natural and the texture will actually improve, making it ideal even for sensitive or troublesome skin. The formula comes in three colors designed to blend with most skin tones and is an unbeatable deal at $29.95.

Welcome Lauren and Welcome Fall...!

Hey everyone, my name is Lauren
and I’m the newest intern here at FACES Beautiful! I’m the go to girl for make up and hair advice around campus and can’t wait to share the hottest trends with all of you beauties! This fall I’m on a real health kick and decided to start it off by picking up this month’s edition of “Fitness Magazine”. Besides all of the yummy recipes and exercise tips, they had a great spread about fall fashion and upcoming trends. What caught my eye about the striking model on pages 60-65 is her gorgeous smokey eye that seamlessly transitions her from gym clothes to a formal daytime outfit. While a smokey eye, during the day, may seem like too much. Fall is the time to experiment with darker colors.
To create the perfect daytime smokey eye, I like to use the colors featured FACES Beautiful’s All About Eyes 3 palette. http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/851036001024.htm It features a pearly highlight color and a neutral shade perfect for your lid. Use the darkest shade to create intensity and drama both on your upper lid and for under eyeliner. Save the lightest colors for a tamer daytime look.
Most of all, have fun!

Hiding In The Shadow

While I think it’s clear I’m a big supporter of working your best feature and never shying away from a little risk in your look, sometimes hiding in the shadows can be just as fun. Life & Style Weekly features January Jones as their Beauty of the Week http://www.lifeandstylemag.com/2012/04/life-and-style-best-beauty-of-the-week-january-jones.html sporting winged out, wait for it, eye shadow rather than the typical liner. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve written many a’ blogs about the beauty that is winged out liner however, this concept allows for a hint of smoke rather than the usual defined line. January Jones puts her own spin on it by swiping the shade of lavender underneath her eye as well.
I looked to Giselle’s Wild Flower 8 Stack Eye Shadow http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/753843300120.htm now listed for the amazing price of just $31. 50. The shades of purples and pinks in the collection are so complimentary to each other and perfect for achieving Jones’ look. Try to avoid the flashback to elementary school, it is in fact okay to combine purple and pink past the age of eight. I started with the lavender shade and topped it with the baby pink for the perfect color. Remember to leave the rest of the eye naked so it doesn’t end up looking like a smokey eye of pastels.
Finally, finish the look with a berry shade of lipstick. I used Faces Beautiful Lipstick in Loveable http://www.facesbeautiful.com/product-p/facesbeautiful-lipstick.htm?1=1&CartID=0 to give my lips that kissable pout. Have fun trying the look!
